Health and Safety Alert

This message is being sent to this forum in hopes that you will read it, learn something, and share it with your friends and loved ones.... We need to get the word out on this! PLEASE REPOST!
I am the mother of two beautiful children and the daughter of a cancer “Survivor” :) I learned something recently that shocked me – and when the shock wore off, I was angry.
I opened a posting in one of my parenting groups here on Myspace entitled “Are you Bathing your baby in Formaldehyde?” To my surprise, this is what I saw:

Ingredients
Water, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, PEG-80 Sorbitan Laurate, Sodium Trideceth Sulfate, PEG-150 Distearate, Fragrance, Polyquaternium-10, Tetrasodium EDTA, Quaternium-15, Citric Acid, Yellow 10 and Orange 4.

Quaternium-15 is a preservative found in many cosmetics and industrial substances that releases formaldehyde.

Formaldehyde is one of the largest indoor pollutants in our homes. . It is a recognized carcinogen, an immunotoxin, a reproductive toxicant, and a neurotoxin that can cause CNS & neurological disorders. It is a common ingredient found in many products in your home such as air fresheners, rug cleaners, bubble bath, perfume, liquid scouring cleansers, toilet bowl cleaners, floor finishes, pressed board furniture, toothpaste, hair spray, soap, floor wax and furniture polish to name a few, but worst of all baby shampoo! Unless removed it literally envelops you.

Formaldehyde is stored in fat cells in our bodies. Morticians now need 60ess formaldehyde to preserve a body than in the past because the human body today stores so much of it from long term exposure.

Symptoms caused by formaldehyde include allergies, cancer, asthma and cold like symptoms from immediate exposure.

Knowing that you can't believe everything you read, I did a little research of my own, and upon learning the truth in these words, I found out that ALOT of the things I TRUSTED for my family were, in fact, quite dangerous for their health. Here's why:
"The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) classifies cosmetics and personal care products, but does not regulate them. In 1938, the FDA granted self-regulation to the Cosmetics, Toiletries and Fragrance Association (CTFA), the self-appointed industry organization.
With The exception of color additives and a few prohibited ingredients, a cosmetic manufacturer may use almost ANY raw material as a cosmetic ingredient and market the product WITHOUT an approval from FDA" ("Prohibited Ingredients", FDA Office of Cosmetics Fact Sheet, Dec. 19, 1994)

What this means is that the industry does not have to account to anyone, not even the FDA. The direct result of industry self-regulation is that many products on the market today that we use constantly--and worse, products that we UNKNOWINGLY use on our children and even babies in the womb-- are Toxic!

Also, children with chronic lung infections, asthma, allergies, and Cystic Fibrosis are actually at risk when mom cleans the house! We wouldn't dream of letting our children breathe poisonous fumes intentionally, yet we do it every time we try to 'protect' them by cleaning the house! Another FACT for all those moms who stay at home cleaning day in and day out: According to the National Cancer Society, a 15 year study found that stay at home women are at a 54% higher risk of cancer!

Did you Know.....

a. Chlorine Bleach can burn; irritate skin, eyes, and the respiratory system?

b. Ammonia can be damaging to the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract?

c. Air fresheners contain toxins that include Formaldehyde and Phenol?

d. Dishwashing detergents contain dry chlorine, which is the #1 cause of poisoning in children according to poison control?

e. Furniture polish contains Petroleum Distillates, which can cause skin and lung cancer?

These just name a few... You can do a smell test on your household cleaners. Quite simply, the more scent they have, the more toxins they have. Do the research, check over these websites on the Web, and spread the word.

If we're going to LIVE STRONG, Let's LIVE WELL !!!

I do NOT sell products of any kind, and I do not want any money-- However, If you are interested in finding out WHERE and HOW I get safe, non toxic items for myself, my home and my family you can private message me or you can email me at: greaterchanges@aim.com

Kimberley,
What a wonderful, & informative article. It is so true the many toxins that we expose ourselves to.
I have just recently found a great alternative for me for household cleaners. It actually comes from a wonderful new technology used for cleaning laundry - Laundry Pure.
I use this same water that cleans clothes, for my general cleaning & dusting in my home. It uses UV light to kill bacteria, & silver ions & hydro peroxides to lift away dirt & grime. I also use an air purification unit in my home, to keep down pollutants. I feel that the better quality my home air is, the better for my health.
