Let's Stop Poisoning Our ChildrenViews: 102

Erika May
Every year to 10 million household poisonings are reported. Many are fatal and most of the victims are children. These poisonings are the result of accidental ingestion of common household substances found in just about every home.

This is a wake up call for parents. I want to share some of the health hazards your children are exposed to every day through cleaning and personal care products.

Debra Dadd comments in Home Safe Home, the average home today contains more chemicals then were found in a typical chemistry lab... Some of the most dangerous substances are in our cleaning products; such as bathroom cleaners, dishwasher soap, window cleaner, bleach, shampoo, mouthwash; just to name a few. These products, and many more, are dangerous and have caused tens of thousands of injuries or
deadly accidents.

So why are these products in our homes? Probably because you didn't realize how dangerous they can be. And you probably didn't know that there are products on the market that are more effective, much safer, and more economical than grocery store brands. The fact is, by using safer household products you would no longer be taking unnecessary chances with your child.

Did you know that the Consumer Product Safety Commission reported that of the commonly found chemicals in homes, they "identified 150 have been linked to allergies, birth defects, cancer, and psychological abnormalities." And an astonishing 884 toxins were found in personal care products, including baby lotions.

Wouldn't you agree, our children are helpless when it comes to choosing the cleaning and personal care products they are exposed to? So, I believe it's our responsibility as parents to protect them from harm and disease as best we can. Knowing now that there are so many harmful chemicals in your home, wouldn't it be better to get rid of them? There are safer, effective alternatives available, so is there any reason to place your child at risk another day?
